What is the Fraxel® Dual Laser?

The Fraxel® Dual laser is a fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing technology designed to improve skin tone, texture, and radiance. It works by creating thousands of microscopic columns of thermal injury in the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process to produce new collagen and healthy skin cells.

The “Dual” refers to its two laser wavelengths:

  • 1550 nm wavelength: Targets deeper layers to improve wrinkles, scarring, and skin texture.

  • 1927 nm wavelength: Focuses on more superficial issues like pigmentation, sun spots, and melasma.

What to Expect During Treatment

  • Treatment Time: Approximately 20–45 minutes depending on the area treated

  • Comfort: Most patients describe a prickling or warm sensation. A topical numbing cream is applied prior to treatment to maximize comfort.

  • Number of Sessions: A series of 4-6 sessions, spaced about 4–6 weeks apart, is typically recommended for best results. Some improvements are visible after just one treatment.

Downtime and Healing Time

  • Immediate Effects: Expect redness (similar to a moderate sunburn) and mild swelling for 2–4 days.

  • Peeling: Flaking or bronzing of the skin usually starts around day 3–5 and may last a few days as fresh skin replaces old, damaged tissue.

  • Post-Treatment Care:

    • Gentle cleansing and moisturizing

    • Strict sun protection (SPF 30+ daily) to protect the healing skin

    • Avoid heat, exercise, and products with active ingredients (retinoids, acids) until fully healed

Most patients are socially presentable within 4–7 days, although subtle pinkness may linger longer, especially after deeper treatments.
